Hypnosis is a process of being guided into a relaxed state where you can access your subconscious mind and change the patterns and programming there. You can overcome habits (e.g. stop smoking) and achieve weight loss. You can overcome drug addictions, change your metabolism, stop or relieve pain, and heal trauma or phobias using hypnosis. Most of the patterns in our life are embedded in our subconscious mind. It is often difficult to change them from the conscious level of processing, so hypnosis and other approaches such as NLP and energy psychology techniques like EFT, Psych-K, & NMT may be much more rapid ways of fostering change than ordinary counseling or therapy approaches. Hypnotherapy is usually a relaxing process and can even foster healing of pains and physical conditions. Hypnosis is well-documented to be effective for addressing many health issues and has been practiced for many decades in modern medicine and psychiatry, as well as having been employed in some manner for hundreds or thousands of years in a number of cultures around the world.
There are many studies on medical hypnosis that show impressive results:
In one study, researchers assigned dieters into 2 groups. One group used medical hypnosis, the other didn't. The group that used medical hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds. The group that didn't lost an average of only 0.5 pounds! Another study (from the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology) found that the use of hypnosis increased fat reduction by an average of 97% during treatment! Studies have also shown hypnosis to be effective in reducing pain and helping accelerate healing from surgery. Hypnosis is widely used by psychiatrists and other psychotherapy practitioners to help people heal from anxiety, trauma, and phobias, and to build self-confidence and self-esteem.
As a mental health counselor [FL Lic. # MH 5806] with a Master's degree in Counseling and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University Of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, Jed initially trained in hypnotherapy in 2001 with Harry Henshaw in North Miami Beach. Harry is a relaxation and healing music professional as well as a psychologist and hypnotist. This hipnosis coursework included NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), which includes the work of people like Richard Bandler. Bandler, Grinder, Tony Robbins, and other NLP pioneers have combined hypnosis methods with recognition of how people process information with their sensory modalities and how we build rapport with those we interact with and create states where we can influence others. When used by a skilled, compassionate therapist, these methods are powerful resources for facilitating positive transformations. Hypnosis is often demonstrated by entertainers as a way to tell someone to do whatever you say - those who are very open and motivated to follow undesirable or strange hypnotic suggestions may do so, but hypnosis used in a therapeutic way will EMPOWER YOU rather than directing you to place yourself under the control of someone or something outside yourself. Trust and rapport between the client and therapist is important in facilitating positive outcomes in therapy; this applies to hypnosis as well as any other type of therapeutic interaction, including standard psychotherapy and physicians' medical treatments.
Prior to training in hypnosis Jed had begun to attend experiential workshops with past-life regression practitioners such as Linda Adler (a former client and student of Dr. Brian Weiss), and soon began to read and study as much as possible on this subject, including audios and books from the Edgar Cayce organization (A.R.E.), the modern Essenes, Dick Sutphen, Roger Woolger, Brian Weiss, Carol Bowman, Michael Newton, and others. As a trained counselor and experienced Reiki pracitioner and meditator, this process seemed very natural to Jed... and it is not essentially different from doing standard regression within the current lifetime as regular hypnosis instruction teaches - the therapist just needs to have an open mind about what can be accessed and transformed. We all have tremendous healing resources within ourselves, and hypnosis is a wonderful tool to help us connect with the power of our Soul, our subconscious, and our creative visualization abilities.
